About the Aberdeen Pheasant Coalition (APC)

A group of local businesses & organizations

The Aberdeen Pheasant Coalition (APC) is a group of local businesses and organizations working to raise $100,000 to be used to provide a sign up incentive for farmers and landowners enrolling land into the USDA’s CRP program and also enrolling it into the South Dakota Game, Fish, and Park’s public Walk In hunting access program. At this level, we will add 4000 acres of excellent pheasant habitat open to public hunting in Brown County. The APC is being spearheaded by our local Northern South Dakota Pheasants Forever Chapter #77. Our APC members are businesses and organizations that understand the importance of pheasants to our Aberdeen economy. What is good for pheasants is good for Aberdeen!

Why?

Pheasant numbers in South Dakota have dropped

In recent years our pheasant numbers in South Dakota have dropped due to loss of habitat and some extremely heavy winters. We are working hard to build up our pheasant populations to the high levels we have enjoyed in the past. To do that, we need to increase good pheasant habitat which in turn will increase our pheasant numbers. As pheasant numbers increase, we will also increase the number of pheasant hunters coming to the Aberdeen area to hunt. These hunters will have a strong impact on our local economy which is great for all of our local businesses. By the way folks, many of you already know this but if you have never been here you will find Aberdeen to be a great community with friendly people, with all the up to date amenities and conveniences, excellent hotels and restaurants, outstanding grocery stores, excellent sporting good and hunting stores, many fine shops and folks who welcome pheasant hunters in a big way! Oh yeah- we also have lots of pheasants and we our working hard to keep it that way!
